The Team

Go Dive Malta and Malta Underwater Film Unit is owned and run by Marco and Valentina Spinedi. The bespoke team of dive, film and TV professionals has been hand picked to deliver the very best and the very safest experience for our clients.

We are a team of specialists – a team of friends with well over a 100 years experience between us. A team of individual strengths within this niche media environment – water and underwater – but all with a common goal: To give you the best possible result in the shortest possible time, where safety is paramount and always with a smile!

Marco Spinedi
(Company Director, Cast & Crew Trainer and Marine Unit Diver)

Marco is the Director of diving at Malta Underwater Film Unit and GoDive Malta, PADI 5* Dive Resort. He manages all activities related to diving, logistics, schedules and staff and is your principal contact in Malta. His knowledge and reputation in the Dive Industry have enabled him to build a close network of contacts on the ground. Marco specialises in search and recovery diving in a range of extreme conditions and cast trainer and safety diver during production.

Dan has worked exclusively on underwater films and ‘stills’ projects since 1988 – originally starting in front of Camera before becoming part of the legendary and late Director / Operator Mike Portelly’s Crew behind it for 15 years. Since then he has assisted some of the world’s most famous Underwater DoP’s including Pete Romano, before becoming an Operator in his own right – often finding solutions to achieve certain shots in the simplest of ways.

Having managed budgets of all sizes and location teams of up to 150 personnel, you can be sure that your team and location budget is safe in her hands. Jenny has produced and implemented risk assessments and security protocols for dive ops, helicopter stunts, ropes work, work at sea, jungle, mountain, arctic circle, remote locations, hostile environments and physical endurance, to the highest standards for UK and US broadcasters.

Valentina Spinedi
(Production Coordinator)

With an in-depth knowledge the Maltese tourist industry & local diving and 4 languages up her sleeve, Valentina is the perfect candidate to coordinate all your location, logistical, accommodation and catering needs. Her special relationships with hotels, transport agencies and suppliers, mean you’ll always get the very best for your money.

Matt is probably the most experienced Underwater Focus Puller in the world with a career spanning over 20 years – just in this field(!) and using both Film and Digital formats. He also pulls focus above water – so all elements of your job can be catered for. Matt is excellent at organising and co-ordinating communication to those underwater on the Underwater Hydrophone, often a huge help to the AD Dept.

Ben is a professional Underwater Housing Tech & Camera Assistant – having worked with some of the industry’s best Cinematographers above and under water using both Film and Digital formats: He has specialised in Underwater Camera Housings and is familiar with just about every one out there.

Claudio Gazzaroli
(Underwater photographer and videomaker)

Claudio is a photographer and videographer who collaborated with magazines and stock agencies all over the world for several years. He is working with major Swiss television networks, agencies, private companies, working on several projects, and on films. Over the years the technique has been refined to continuous research of new techniques of photography and to the many expeditions performed around the world.Since 2005 he has started to win many international prizes as underwater photography.

Bernie is the go-to Underwater Gaffer in the U.K. As an established Gaffer above water – he also has a complete understanding of the complexity of how to light below it – having specialised in this exclusive field for over 25 years. He has his own underwater lights and has created some magical and bespoke lighting solutions in the past – again born out of a complete understanding of how light is affected and travels through water.

Max is a highly experienced diver with over 8000 logged dives - sea, rivers, and lakes around the globe, there isn’t much he hasn’t seen or done underwater. He is a PADI / SSI Master Scuba Dive Trainer with a huge amount of dive management experience. Max specialises as an underwater trainer for cast and crew, as well as a Marine Unit safety diver. Credits include Wonder Woman (feature film), Renegade (feature), Water life (documentary), The Pursuit of Love (Drama Series), The Beast must Die (Drama Series), Great British Ships (TV Programme)

Lazy Marf
(Composer and Sound Designer)

Music

Lazy Marf is an electronic music producer influenced by the Los Angeles beat music scene and European electronic avangards. His music is inspired by the world of dreams and the atmospheres of science fiction movies. Background elements mixed with the sounds of vintage synthesizers create abstract harmonies between black music and electronica. Other influences come from Synthwave, Vaporwave and NeoJazz.
